My Favorite Spritz Cookies

Delicious buttery spritz cookies with a crisp texture, perfect for any occasion.

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 and 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Optional: Gel food coloring, sprinkles, chocolate chips, or melted chocolate for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C).
  2. Line baking sheets with silicone mats or nonstick baking sheets.
  3. Chill the lined baking sheets.
  4. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until smooth and fluffy (about 3 minutes).
  5. Incorporate the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract, and mix until combined.
  6. Gradually blend in the all-purpose flour and salt until fully mixed.
  7. Fit a cookie press with a decorative plate and fill it with the dough.
  8. Press cookies onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  9. If the dough feels soft, chill the cookies again.
  10. Bake for 7–9 minutes, or until edges are lightly browned.
  11. Let cookies sit on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  12. Decorate with melted chocolate or sprinkles if desired.

Notes

For best results, ensure butter is softened, and don’t skip the chilling step to prevent spreading.
