Korean Corn Dog

A delightful street food that blends crispy batter with juicy hot dogs or gooey mozzarella sticks, perfect for snacking and sharing.

  • Hot Dogs or Mozzarella Sticks
  • 1 cup Cornmeal
  • 1 cup All-Purpose Flour
  • 2 teaspoons Baking Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Sugar
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 tablespoons Gochujang
  • 2 tablespoons Honey
  • Ketchup
  • American Mustard
  • Crispy Shallots (optional)
  • Furikake (optional)
  • Oil for Frying

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  2. In another bowl, whisk milk and egg until frothy.
  3. Pour the egg mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until smooth; the batter should be thick yet pourable.
  4. Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Skewer hot dogs or mozzarella sticks securely.
  6. Dip the skewers into the batter to coat thoroughly.
  7. Carefully place the coated skewers into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes.
  8. Drain on paper towels and serve immediately with gochujang honey ketchup, mustard, crispy shallots, and furikake.

Notes

Use cold ingredients for a crispier texture. Consider using club soda in the batter for a lighter coating.
