Homemade Milky Ways

A delightful homemade version of the classic candy bar, featuring rich chocolate and creamy nougat goodness.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup mini marshmallows
  • 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips
  • 1 cup caramels, unwrapped
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 2 cups milk chocolate chips
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, light corn syrup, unsalted butter, and evaporated milk. Heat over medium until it reaches a rolling boil, stirring constantly.
  2. Continue stirring for about 5 minutes or until the mixture thickens.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract, mini marshmallows, and milk chocolate chips until smooth.
  4. Pour the nougat mixture into a greased 8×8 inch pan and chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
  5. In a separate saucepan, melt the caramels with 2 tablespoons of milk over low heat until smooth.
  6. Pour the caramel mixture over the chilled nougat and spread evenly. Chill for another 30 minutes.
  7. Remove from the pan and cut into bars.
  8. Melt the remaining milk chocolate chips and optional vegetable oil in a microwave-safe bowl.
  9. Dip each bar into the melted chocolate, allowing excess chocolate to drip off, then return to the tray to set.

Notes

For a flavor twist, consider adding a sprinkle of sea salt to the caramel layer. Ensure the nougat layer is completely chilled before adding caramel to prevent mixing.
