Grilled Tri-Tip Steak with Molasses Chili Marinade

A smoky, juicy tri-tip steak marinated in a blend of molasses and chili for a sweet and spicy kick. Perfect for impressing guests or family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 5 cloves garlic, peeled and smashed
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 pounds tri-tip steaks

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, molasses, soy sauce, rice vinegar, smashed garlic, chopped ginger, chili powder, and black pepper.
  2. Coat the tri-tip steaks in the marinade, cover the bowl, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight.
  3. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat and oil the grates.
  4. Remove the steaks from the marinade, letting excess drip off. Grill for about 5 minutes per side, or until desired doneness is reached.
  5. Allow the steaks to rest for 10-15 minutes before serving.
  6. Boil the reserved marinade to create a sauce and drizzle it over the sliced steaks just before serving.

Notes

For maximum flavor, marinate overnight. Use a meat thermometer to ensure perfect doneness.
